S2 Ep 14: Tell Me Sweet Little Lies (Recap)

Meredith is calling Derek "McDreamy" again and Cristina is avoiding
Burke because he thinks she's moved in with him. Derek flirts with
Meredith as he helps get her mother in the medical trial. George
and Izzie bring the dog to the hospital. George tells Meredith that
it's either him or the dog. When Meredith hesitates he says
he's moving out.
A rock guitarist has cut off three fingers, Derek and Cristina work on him. Derek says he will have to quit smoking to help his hand heal. The patient denies being a smoker until Cristina points out his yellow fingernails. George is told to make sure an elderly patient, Sophie, leaves the hospital. Richard gives Alex his exam results. Sophie flatters George and convinces him that she's not going to a retirement home but is waiting for her daughter to get a room at her house ready for her.
Alex and Izzie deal with a Japanese competitive eater who can't stop hiccupping. She doesn't speak English so her coach translates. Miranda has some contractions and pages Addison who says it's probably Braxton Hicks. Addison tells Miranda she needs to slow down and asks Izzie to keep and eye on her.
Meredith and Burke deal with a patient called Naomi who has heart valve problems. She is extremely happy. Meredith thinks she is on drugs but Naomi says she's not. Burke tells her to run a test. Derek criticises Cristina for not being compassionate. She scoffs, saying that Meredith is barely back on her feet and he's got her calling him "McDreamy" again. Richard suggests George hand Sophie off to another department as they can't get her to leave. George makes up a potential illness and sends Sophie for tests.
At lunch Alex, George and Cristina have a hotdog eating contest, Cristina wins. Izzie makes a flyer to get rid of the dog. Richard is told that the nurses are overworked. The Japanese patient has a torn oesophagus so she can't compete today. Her coach is not happy. Cristiana checks on the guitarist who is holding some cigarettes, she tells him she doesn't think he will be able to quit.
Sophie is back in her room; George says he will have to call her daughter. Meredith can't believe Naomi's test were negative and still thinks she can't be naturally that happy. Burke invites Meredith to dinner at his and Cristina's place. Derek tells Cristina off for telling her patient he won't be able to quit smoking. She tells him off for screwing up Meredith and making her get a dog.
The Japanese patient has checked herself out. Cristina lets the guitarist have one last cigarette. Cristina tells Meredith she has kept her apartment and hasn't told Burke. George makes up another potential illness for Sophie so she can stay and get more tests.
Meredith schedules Naomi's surgery; her new husband is hiding from her as her attitude is exhausting. Meredith forges Burke's signature to take more tests. The Japanese patient returns and is vomiting blood after competing. Miranda works on her in the OR but starts having contractions. Richard takes over. Burke knows Meredith forged her signature but the results show that Naomi has a tumour that is causing the high serotonin levels making her euphoric.
Derek sews the guitarist's fingers back on. The patient swears he will never smoke again. Sophie's daughter shows up and wants to know why she's not in the retirement home. She doesn't know anything about her mother having a room at her house. Sophie tells George that she doesn't want to go to a retirement home and become old. George reassures her. She then convinces him he should fight against Meredith's dog and get what is his.
In Richard's surgery a nurse comes in to say they are going on strike in ten days. Alex's patient is recovering and he tells the coach to apologise for ruining her competitive eating career. Alex asks Izzie to open up his results, he has passed. Derek tells Cristina he will be nice without being "McDreamy."
Addison sends Miranda home for best rest. Meredith admits to Cristina that she is not just friends with Derek; he's still "McDreamy". George stands up for himself with Meredith saying he deserves to be treated better than the dog and he is not moving out. That night, Meredith, Izzie and George take the dog to Addison and Derek's trailer. Meredith and Derek talk, he says that it's just a dog and doesn't mean anything.
