S2 Ep 12: Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (Recap)

Izzie has covered the lounge with Christmas decorations. George and
Meredith aren't impressed but try to be supportive. Burke asks
Cristina to help him decorate his tree; she says she's Jewish
because of her step-father.
Derek is depressed about the holidays. On rounds the interns meet Tim, a happy family man with three young kids. He fell off the roof of his house while stringing up lights. George is given Nadia, a patient with a gastric ulcer, whose noisy family yells at the doctors for constantly rescheduling her surgery.
Cristina helps Burke with a heart transplant case, a boy named
Justin. Meanwhile Alex has to resit his practical exam and thinks
he will fail. Cristina tells Burke she hasn't observed a religious
holiday for years. They tell Justin a donor heart
has arrived, but he says he doesn't want it.
Richard's wife forces him to go to his niece's school pageant. He
leaves Miranda to cover his shifts. Addison discusses Christmas
shopping with Derek but he fobs her off. George preps Nadia for
surgery but the family is so noisy he can hardly hear. Miranda
bumps Nadia's surgery for an emergency and lets Meredith go help
Alex study. In the OR, Justin still doesn't want the heart.
Meanwhile Derek tells Tim that he has bleeding on the brain
and needs surgery.
In surgery, Burke says he doesn't know what makes Justin so angry. He believes that there is a mind-body-spirit connection; Cristina mocks him so he orders her out of his OR. Meredith pretends to be a patient for Alex to practice on.
Miranda tells George off for teasing Alex about killing Mr. Martin saying that he will kill someone one day too. In Tim's brain surgery, Izzie goes on about how cute his family is. Derek is moody. Cristina walks in on Alex examining Meredith and she is talked into becoming a mock patient herself. George tells Nadia that she is off schedule until tomorrow, he tries to tell her family to be more peaceful but they are louder than ever.
Cristina helps Alex examine her when George walks in; when Cristina is beeped George has to take over playing a patient. Burke wants a psych consult for Justin. He scolds Cristina for mocking his spirituality in the OR.
Izzie takes Tim's family to go and see him; he is no longer happy-go-lucky and yells at his children to go away. Cristina tells Justin's mother off for putting up Christmas decorations in his room and pulls them down. Miranda is operating when morning sickness kicks in. She sends Meredith to get her a milkshake. Izzie finds George pretending to be a patient for Alex and yells at him. Meredith explains that Alex is having a harder time than her.
Nadia is vomiting blood. Meredith gives Miranda a milkshake but she has to go back into surgery. Derek and Izzie look at Tim's scans. Izzie ignores Addison when she walks in, so does Derek. Tim needs a second surgery, he is angry. His wife pleads with Derek to fix him. Cristina overhears Justin telling his priest that he didn't deserve another heart. He starts coding but Cristina brings him back.
Burke tells Cristina that its up to Justin to decide to live. Derek and Izzie perform another surgery on Tim. George and Meredith help Miranda with Nadia. George regrets not telling her family to go away while Miranda's baby kicks her.
Alex is asleep and Izzie smacks him awake, she pretends to be a patient for him. Cristina looks over Justin and tells him that she doesn't believe in Santa either but she believes in medicine and that it's a medical miracle that he's survived. She tells him that he should decide to live because in his case, dying isn't the best revenge. George and Miranda tell Nadia's family that she is okay. They say they should sue them so Miranda lets George yell at them. Izzie bursts into tears as Alex examines her. He says he never meant to hurt her.
Miranda is asleep in the halls. Derek calls Meredith over as she
leaves but they go their separate ways. He meets Addison at Joe's.
She can't get Derek to cheer up. He tells her that Meredith wasn't
just a fling or revenge, he fell in love with her and it doesn't go
away because he decided to stay with his wife.
Burke has put up a Chanukah decoration in his apartment. Cristina
tells him that Justin has taken a turn for the better. Izzie lies
under the Christmas tree. Meredith, George and the dog join
her.
