S2 Ep 11: Owner of a Lonley Heart (Recap)

George, Izzie, Meredith and Cristina each look after a quince. Alex
enters but Izzie tells him to leave. The others tell her she's
better off without him. The next morning, Cristina rushes out of
Burke's apartment and doesn't eat the breakfast he's made her.
George tries to ask Meredith out of a drink but is interrupted by
Derek and Addison arguing about him moving out of his trailer.
George's patient, Carl, has had multiple skin melanomas removed so has to have leeches put on to heal the wounds. The interns visit Mr. Martin who is still in a coma as a result of Alex's mistake. Mr and Mrs Russell are with their quince. Only one baby is doing well. Miranda tells Meredith to look after the distraught Mrs Russell.
An inmate, Constance Ferguson, arrives after swallowing razorblades to get out of solitary confinement. She is handcuffed to the bed and is enjoying her time out of jail. George helps Olivia with the leeches but makes a snarky comment about her and Alex so she leaves. Olivia gets in the lift with Izzie and apologises, saying that she was unaware she and Alex were going out. Izzie says nothing.
Derek comes to check on one of the babies; Meredith teases him about Addison making him leave the trailer. One of the quicne's lungs collapses. This only puts Mrs Russell into a deeper depression. Meredith says she can't blame herself but Mrs Russell said she ignored doctor's advice to only have three babies so its her fault.
Cristina shows Miranda Constance's x-rays, she has swallowed four razorblades and needs surgery. Constance is happy for the longer recovery time. Meredith takes Mrs Russell to visit her babies but suddenly one stops breathing. In the OR Burke and Addison see problems with another baby's aorta. Addison goes to help Meredith, Mrs Russell can't watch.
Cristina and Miranda operate on Constance. George checks on Carl who has named the leeches and wants to keep them. Carl asks him if he's made up with Olivia yet. In the babies' room, Alex is trying to find a cure for Mr. Martin, Meredith helps him but Izzie walks in and tells her off for talking to Alex.
Cristina tells Constance that she'll only be in hospital for a few more days. She tells Cristina how she killed three people. George and Olivia work on Carl who says its time for them to kiss and make up. Olivia tells George that he and Meredith are never going to happen.
Addison talks with Richard about how he treated her when she was an intern. He suggests the same tough love approach with Izzie whom she sees great potential in. Izzie complains to George and Cristina about Meredith being all over Alex and she gets upset when they tease her.
Addison tells Izzie to look after Emily, the quince that had heart surgery. She tells her to keep her alive until she gets back in the morning. Alex tells Derek that he has found some ways of helping Mr. Martin but Derek tells him that there's no hope and it's his fault.
Izzie starts her night shift looking after Emily. Meredith
apologises and Izzie who says that she wasn't there when she needed
her. Constance has swallowed a light bulb and is chocking. Cristina
works on her. Meredith tries to stop Mrs Russell leaving
the hospital.
Meredith realises that by putting two of the quince together
can improve the sicker one's health. George tells Carl that he
loves Meredith. Izzie is struggling with Emily. She pages Addison
who says she has to handle it herself.
The next morning, Izzie wakes up and Emily is gone. The nurse
said she died half an hour ago and Addison said not to wake her.
Addison tells Izzie that it wasn't her fault, that Emily was going
to die anyway. She knew this since Burke's surgery. She made Izzie
do it so she could handle the same pressure in the future. Izzie
angrily storms off. Meanwhile, Meredith's baby is getting
better.
Alex sits with Mr. Martin and Derek tells him about the first
patient he killed. Alex says that he will sit with him because no
one should die alone. Cristina tells Constance that she will be
fine in 10 days but upon seeing the police guards at her door
she says maybe 14 days. This makes Constance happy.
Meredith and Izzie go to the pound and get a dog, Addison tells Derek that she's lonely and Cristina finally eats breakfast with Burke.
