A young woman suffers a brutal rape and during surgery the doctors discover she has bitten off her attacker's penis.
The severed member becomes Meredith's property until the police arrive to claim it, and she carts it around the hospital in a chilly bin while she goes about her shift.
Meanwhile, Meredith becomes concerned for a newborn in the hospital nursery, and puts her career on the line by going over the heads of the doctors in charge to get help. Although Meredith proves to be right in this case, she is given a warning about upsetting other departments in the hospital.
George is having another bad shift, feeling like the Angel of Death after five of his patients die on him. He cheers up slightly when Cristina points out that the particular shift he's on has a 90% mortality rate.
Cristina and Alex, both desperate for surgical experience, end up frastrated as patient after patient turns out to be perfectly well and gets sent home.
And Izzie has an encounter with an injured illegal immigrant, who she ends up fixing in an alleyway, despite the fact that it's against the hospital rules.
