The German head of music came to New Zealand with his wife Petra
to escape the acid rain of Europe, to cycle the South Island, and
to visit German potter friends in Nelson. Dresses like a hippie
clown. His grand passion is jazz. Free Jazz - German Free
Jazz!
Wanted to be a professional jazz musician but his inability to play
in time, meant that he never quite made it. Daily champions the
music of German improvisational groups and plays "Das Blooss", the
blues, on his electric piano but his enthusiasm does not rub off on
his students who are more interested in learning the latest hit
songs. He has a fervent hatred of classical music and forbids his
students to listen to anything composed before 1960.
