Tips from Organic NZ

With Philippa Jamieson, Editor of Organic NZ

Aphid Spray

Grated rind of one Lemon
1 Litre Boiling Water
Either 1 tsp Cooking oil or one squirt of Dishwashing Liquid

Grate the Lemon rind into a heat proof container. Pour the boiling water on top, cover and leave overnight.

Decant into a spray bottle and aid the oil or dishwashing liquid.

Spray both on top and under leaves for aphids

Compost Tea

2-3 good handfuls of Compost
Litre of water

Pour the water over the compost. Mix with for as long as you can manage (the longer the better). Kids love doing this!

If you want to use as a spray sieve the mixture and decant into a spray bottle.

This is very good for spraying onto young seedlings.

Mildew Spray

1 tsp Baking soda
1 Litre Cold Water
1 tsp Oil or a squirt of Dishwashing Liquid.

Mix all together and decant into a spray bottle. Spray leaves as the first sign of Mildew spreading, early in the morning before full sun.
