Pre-mixed biscuits and soups in jars
For friends who are hard to gift for&
For the biscuits - makes about 18 biscuits
Ingredients for the Biscuits:
1 1/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chocolate melts
1 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1.2 lt screw top jar

Starting with the oats, pour into jar and pack down, then continue layering in ingredients one on top of the other packing firmly as you go.
Hand scribe the following cooking method
Preheat oven to 180C. Place a piece of baking paper onto a baking tray.
Into a medium bowl mix together ? cup melted butter, 1 egg and 1 tsp vanilla.
Stir in the entire contents of jar and mix well. Shape into walnut sized balls. Place well apart and bake around 12 to 15 minutes.
Cut a fabric cloth to easily fit over screw top. Make a hole in the card, then thread with ribbon before fixing down on top of fabric cover.
Ingredients for Soup in a jar:
1.2 lt jar or wide mouth large preserving jar with fitting screw
1/2 cup barley
1/2 cup dried split green peas
1/2 cup white rice
1/2 cup dry lentils
2 tbsp dried flaked onion
2 tsp dried flaked garlic
2 tbsp dried parsley
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp lemon pepper
1 tsp grated black pepper
2 crushed beef stock cubes or dried stock
1/2 cup alphabet pasta
1 cup macaroni shells or whatever you have&

Layer in barley peas etc in the order given.
Cut fabric to easily fit top of jar.
Hand scribe on card
Brown a piece of chopped beef in a little oil in a large pot. Before adding contents of jar and 2 lt water, add chopped celery, carrots and whatever seasonal vegetables you have on hand/ or a can of flavoured tomatoes.
Bring to simmer and cooked for around an hour or until vege are soft.
Make a hole in one end of card, fix with ribbon then tie around neck of jar.
