Michele Perry: Retro eye makeup - 1 March
I'm here to show the OTHER party eye, the classic vintage
glamour eye.
Think of the retro '40s and '50s gals like Dita von Teese, Brigitte
Bardot, Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn.
This feline look is totally hot and can be styled subtly or more obviously depending on each person's preferences. A minimum skill level is required in order to create this beautiful make-up but the more you practice the more perfect and flawless the eyeliner and lashes will go on.
The trick to wearing this look is to make it low key; you don't want to make it look overly done so keep the rest of your makeup simple and fairly natural.
For this look you will need
A soft nude shimmery eye shadow shade like a champagne or
wheaten gold color
One natural style fake eyelash to cut into half lashes (I love demi
lashes for this, available at most pharmacies)
Eyelash glue (should come with lashes)
Tweezers
Scissors
Damp cotton bud
Eyeliner - I prefer gel eyeliner but a variety of eyeliners
can work
A flat angled brush as an eyeliner brush I get mine from
spotlight
A soft domed eye shadow brush
Step 1 Start with a natural base and conceal any imperfections.
Step 2 Choose a shimmery natural shadow you
only need the one color.
And apply the shadow from lid up to the brow bone, remember to use
a light hand
Step 3 Load up your eyeliner brush with the gel
eyeliner and start drawing a line from the inner eye keeping as
close to the lash line as possible, aim for the roots of the
lashes. I usually hold up the corner of my eye as I find it's
faster and more effective this way.
Draw the line using small strokes right to the end of the eye. I
like to flick it upwards slightly at the end but if you prefer
something more natural, then let it taper off where your eye
naturally ends, don't extend downwards.
Step 4 Take your eyelash carefully out from the box and fold it in half then snip it in the middle, now you have a pair of corner lashes, much easier to apply and more natural looking, save the remaining lash for another occasion
Step 5. Pick up the lashes with a pair of tweezers
Step 6 Run the strip of the lashes thru some lash glue (I love Duo's Waterproof Eyelash Glue) but avoid putting too much or it will become a mess.
Step 7 Let the glue dry for 5 to 10 seconds or until it turns tacky.
Step 8 Press the strip onto the base of your lashes starting at the outer corner. Hold for a few seconds, use the end of a cotton bud to gently press the falsies along your lash line.
Step 9 Readjust if necessary.
Step 10 Once the glue is completely dry, make sure there are no spaces between your lash line and the fake lashes. If you see a white line, it means the lashes should be put closer to your lash line. You can either start all over or fix the problem by filling in the gap with a black liner.
Step 11 Apply mascara onto your natural lashes so they blend in with the fake lashes.
Voila! Now add some cheeks a natural gloss and you're done, if you want to make it super vintage you can add red lips and arched eyebrows. Meow!
