Tricks to keep you going

Little bags and little dishes are key to eating little portions when needed.  Stock up on snack sized re-sealable bags, little paper bags, small sealable containers that are BPA free and will go from the freezer, to the microwave or into a waiting pot.

Chilled Quick Yoghurt with Almonds and Honey Snacks

Makes 4 snack bowls

500 ml low fat organic greek yoghurt
1/2 cup sliced almonds 
1/4 cup runny honey


Filling Smoothie Treat

Makes 4 smoothies

500 ml low fat organic greek yoghurt
1/4 cup ground almonds (best is in fridge at harvest of huckleberry farms stores)
2 tablespoons runny honey
1 cup frozen berries or fresh when available

Whiz together in a blender, store in an airtight container in fridge and enjoy a little at a time, makes a super pudding alternative.
Other options to add to either: chia seeds, toasted coconut, ground lsa, chopped fruit, canned fruit, dried apricots, flaxseed oil.


My Super Trail Mix

Makes 7 bags
Preparation time: 15 minutes

Always buy nuts from a store with a high turn over so that they are fresh. Check dates on packaging and store in the freezer when not using regularly.

7 brazil nuts
28 cashews
28 almonds
14 hazelnuts
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
7 dried Turkish figs
14 tart dried cherries
7 medjool dates
7 prunes
1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins
7 re-sealable bags

Lay the bags out and divide the fruit and nuts evenly between the bags. 
Add a little dark chocolate if you are that way inclined. 
I find this a good thing to do while chatting on the phone or watching telly.
