Inspiring Kiwis: Melissa Moon
At first glance it's probably obvious why Melissa Moon was chosen as our very first Air NZ Holidays Inspiring Kiwi. Just take a look at these achievements:
Two-time World Mountain-Running Champion
World Stair-Racing Champion
21 New Zealand athletic titles
7-Time National Cross Country Champion
10-time North Island Cross Country Champion
NZ Sports Woman of the Year
NZ University Sports Person of the Year
Athletics NZ Athlete of the Year
The Outstanding Young Person of the World Award
Masters in Business Studies (sports endorsed)
Diploma in Teaching (Physical Education & Health and Special Education)
Diploma in Sports Studies
But the follow-through that Melissa has is what makes her truly inspiring. Last year she and 20 other athletes together completed the Blue Planet Run - a gruelling 15,200 mile event crossing 16 countries in 95 days in order to raise awareness about safe-drinking water.
Other community projects Melissa is involved with include volunteering at the Compassion Centre and Meals on Wheels. She is also heavily involved with Project K, Muscular Dystrophy, as well as being a mentor and Mission-On Lifestyle Ambassador.
So where does someone like Melissa get her inspiration from? Watch the interview and find out!
- Do you know a person or an organisation who is inspiring? Nominate your Inspiring Kiwi, and if they are chosen, Air New Zealand Holidays will fly your nominee to Wellington so we can interview them on Good Morning.
