False Lashes: A How To Guide

False lashes are a great way to add instant drama to an evening look or subtle fullness to a natural day look.

Depending on the type of lashes you buy (from individual, 3/4 or full strip lashes), you can achieve many different looks and effects.

You can even reuse them once you've removed them and what's more, they don't ruin your natural lashes either!

Applying false lashes, while somewhat time consuming initially, is anything but difficult. It's all about allowing yourself enough time to do it properly.

Follow these five easy steps to perfect false lashes!
1. Trim the lashes - take the strip of lashes and measure them up against your lashline. Ideally you want them to start a bit in from where your lashes begin and stop right around where your lash line naturally stops. If the lashline is a bit longer than this, you'll need to trim it (trim from the outer corner for a more natural look).

2. Apply glue - line the lashline of the false lashes with a thin line of glue. Now allow the glue to dry a bit and go 'tacky' (about 30 seconds to a minute, depending on your lash glue)

3. Apply the lashes - tilt your head back and look down into the mirror so your eyes are almost closed but you can still see. Press the lashes as close to your natural lashline as possible but so it's still resting you your eyelid and not the lashes themselves. Press right along the lashline with a cotton bud to make sure it's securely stuck down.

4. Allow to dry - do your foundation, eyebrows or whatever else while the glue has time to completely set.

5. Apply mascara - I do this after I apply lashes so the natural lashes blend in seamlessly with the false ones.

Top Tips
Apply all your eye makeup before applying false lashes. Once they're on, you can go over the lashline again with eyeliner.

To remove, just peel off from the outer corner before you remove the rest of your makeup
If you look after them, false lashes can be reused a few times. You might need to clean the lashline with some makeup remover first.

If you're still having trouble, consider enrolling in a makeup short course.
