Astar's Craft: The Perfect Ball Frock part2

With Astar

The Perfect Ball Frock Part 2 -

Week 2 - The Ball Frock - the top to accompany the skirt + finishing waist tie

The patterns selected are:
Either Vogue 2962 or Kwik Sew 3063
The Kwik Sew is a separate unit, but the Vogue with a little bit more effort can quickly become a separate top, but you will need to finish off at waist with a small band or binding.
The patterns indicate how much fabric is required, but as a rule of thumb, around a meter plus lining will do.  If using the Kwik Sew version, do bear in mind that you will need a stretch knit fabric and  +lining.
Full instructions for both versions can be found within the pattern.

Things to keep in mind
When laying pattern on fabric, ensure you follow all cutting instructions, and pin before cutting.
If using the Kwik Sew pattern - when they indicated to place rounded front portion of pattern on fabric where there is the greatest amount of stretch - check that you have, otherwise it will not stretch enough to go across the bust.
Press all seams flat as you go.
In regard to the Vogue top, once finished, either bind with bias binding, ribbon or matching fabric.

- you will also need to hand sew little buttons to match up with loops as fixed during construction.
OF the two patterns, I would recommend the Vogue top as this has a much neater and firmer fit.
For the waist tie to finish off outfit&
You will need another matching but texturally different fabric, like a shiny satin/ or print.
For fabric required, you need the band or tie to be about 12cm wide and 3 times your waist measurement.
Fabric might also need to be joined in the middle if it isn't long enough.

Method
Join fabric in the middle if necessary.
Fold fabric in half long ways with right sides facing.
Pin down both ends and across length leaving a small portion in the middle in which to turn through to right side.
Use a knitting needle to push out corners, before pressing neat and flat.
Hand stitch opening closed.
