How to make a warm dress coat for a dog
Things to gather
Tape measure
Fabric - I used both polar fleece and faux fluffy fur
Matching thread
Sharp scissors/pins
Sewing machine
Brown paper to make a pattern template
pencil
Velcro
Wide elastic
Method
I have cheated the whole process by cutting a pattern off
a coat Rod already had for Ben.
To do this simply fold coat in half and place on paper with the
folded portion resting on one of the edges.
Pin to hold in place, before tracing around all edges of existing
coat.
NOTE - don't forget to transfer over to paper pattern where elastic
fixing bands and Velcro needs to be stitched along with the length
required for the girth of your dog
Cut away from paper.
Fold fabric in half then place and pin down new paper
pattern.
Because the fleece and fur are warm it's probably unnecessary to
further line and pad coat, however if you wanted too
You will need to cut three layers
1. of top fabric,
1. of padding
1. of lining or backing fabric.
Stitch padding to underneath side of top fabric, before bring
right sides of both top fabric and backing fabric
together.
Pin around before stitching, leaving a small opening to turn work
rights sides out.
Transfer to fabric, markings of where collar fixing and girth fixed
elastic needs to be positioned.
Fix Velcro to each end of elastic.
Quick and easy and ready to dress your dog
Further embellish as desired
