Astar's Craft: Handy Home Hints for Upholstery

Handy Home Hints for Upholstery

Faded upholstery

4 parts water to 1 part vinegar. Gently rub over fabric and allow to dry.

Fluff on upholstery fabric - (great for pet fur as well)

Use a chamois cloth soaked in vinegar. Rub gently over fabric and the fluff simply lifts away.

A fresh stain on fabric

I sprinkle stain with cornflour. Allow to dry then vacuum off.

Or the Engineers shaving foam, as the foam, foams away, it lifts whatever is underneath. Pat to dry.

Leather furniture

To keep our WHITE leather couch clean, I now use a little glycerine soap on a damp soft cloth. Spray off with water, then gently dab with a towel.

AND BY FAR the best leather treatment

Mix together 1tsp vinegar with 2 tsp linseed oil.

Apply with a soft cloth, and then polish off with another.

AND should you be unfortunate enough to have such things as
coffee, red wine, tea or other unmentionable stains on upholstery fabric, as a general rule this usually works.

4 tbsp borax dissolved in 500ml of water.

Use a paper towel formed into a rounded pad, and blot over stain.
