Astar's Almond and Chia Seed Morsels

Almond and Chia Seed Morsels

In my quest to have a healthier sugar free life, this recipe for a little 'sweet' treat is perfect&

Ingredients:

70gm almond meal or ground almonds
70gm pumpkin seeds
2 tbsp Chia seeds
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 cup coconut
2 tbsp runny honey
50ml water

Extra cocoa or coconut for coating balls

Method:

Put all dry ingredients into a bowl then add honey and combine with water.

NOTE: add water slowly as the first time I made these it was a bit wet.

Roll into small balls and coat with either coconut or cocoa.

Store in the fridge in an air tight container.

Health properties of:

Almond
It is a member of the rose family and is closely related to the peach, plum and apricot.

They contain significant amounts of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, niacin and riboflavin.

Pumpkin Seeds
Vitamins, B2, 3, 5, beta-carotene, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and zinc.

Filled to overflowing with omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory protecting joints from damage.

Also contain omega-6 fatty acids crucial for a good immune function, healthy skin, assisting in blood clotting, digestion and good nerve function.

Boost memory, and are excellent for healthy brain function.

Chai Seeds
Seeds come from a flowering plant in the mint family native to Mexico and Guatemala.

They boost energy; stabilize blood sugars, aid digestion, lower cholesterol, and contain, calcium, manganese, phosphorus, and healthy omega 3 - which is excellent for the brain.

Coconut
Although coconut is high in saturated fats, they are a different type to those found in meat and dairy and don't pose the same health risks.

Known as medium chain fatty acids, they are soluble and easily digested and metabolized by the body, and are used as an energy source rather than being stored as fat. They have been shown to assist in absorption of calcium, magnesium and some amino acids.

Rich in vitamins, coconut oil's vitamin E keeps the skins connective tissues strong and supply - which helps prevent wrinkles.

Coconut water
Is known to be one of the most balanced electrolyte sources in nature, making a wonderful rehydration drink following intense exercise.
