New Zealand golfer Brad Heaven only needs another solid display on Saturday to progress to the second stage of his bid to gain a PGA Tour playing card in the United States.

Heaven shot a two-under 70 in this morning's third round to move into a tie for 14th on a four-under par total of 212 in a first stage qualifying tournament at Kinderlou Forest in Georgia.

Starting the day in a tie for 16th, Heaven moved up the leaderboard with a steady round that included three birdies and just one bogey.

American Keegan Bradley leads on a 10-under 134.

Compatriot Josh Geary needs to play a blinder in the final round. He dropped to a share of 37th with a two-over 74 this morning after starting the day in 31st.

Heaven and Geary need to be among the top 23 plus ties at the end of the 72-hole strokeplay event to advance to the second stage of qualifying at six venues starting on November 18.

Heaven is three strokes inside the cut-off while Geary is four shots outside.

The third and final stage is a six-round tournament at West Palm Beach in Florida which starts on December 2.
