Writer's blog: Season 3, episode 4
By Rachel Lang
Hmm, got a bit behind on the blog front this week.
As an excuse, Kate, Gavin and I have been busy working out some ideas for Go Girls 4, which we hope we'll be making later in the year. This was a lot of fun, but of course I can't give any juicy hints yet.
And we've also been working on a new show for TV ONE, which started shooting on Sunday, so we've all been a bit over excited/nervous about that. It's called Nothing Trivial and it's about a pub quiz team.
But back to gorgeous Go Girls. It was very nice to sit down last night with the Home Viewers and watch episode 4 with pretty graded pictures and tidy sound (things which make a big difference, but happen late in the process.)
My regular Home Viewers are my two sons, George and Isaac, who are 16 and 13. My husband puts in the odd appearance, but isn't as much of a fan as the real HVs.
None of us are making shows just for own families, but it's an added bonus when they like the stuff you're working on. We're making shows for a local audience, and they are a tiny bit of it. The HVs also watch a lot of cool British comedy and American TV, so when they actively prefer Go Girls it's quite a compliment.
The HVs were also useful audience when we were working on recuts of episodes last year. It was always good to watch them watching the TV, and see where they laughed, or got confused, or even got a bit emotional.
It's also been interesting to me to see first hand how people relate to characters who are not necessarily in their own age group. Of course the guys love Kevin and Brad - but Fran, Jan, and particularly Nan are very popular with the HVs.
This may be because Nan is rather like an overgrown toddler - and the house of McMann is spectacularly played by Ingrid Park, (Fran), Annie Whittle (Jan) and Irene Wood (Nan).
I also think Annie and Michele Hine should be nominated for Best Lezzies on TV. They are such a fantastic couple, and very funny in last night's episode.
Our entire supporting cast are amazing, and you'll get to see more of Gwen, Wiri and Possum next week.
Anyway, after episode 4, things start to hot up in season 3. Brad is now about to be a daddy, though not in a conventional way. Britta has discovered what it's like to be jealous and still hasn't found success, but there's a lot more of this in episodes 6 and 7.
Kevin knows what he wants, though isn't sure how to get it. But unexpectedly, as things do happen in life, it turns out he does have some family - who turns up next week to um, cause some trouble.
And Cody has to really step up if she's going to look after her
family. Even if it means getting out the FOOB - the fashion
boob. She does this rather spectacularly, but Gavin can tell
you more about that next week.
If you missed this episode, catch up here.
