Writer's blog: season 2, episode 13
By Rachel Lang
Everyone loves a happy ending and so do we.
But actually writing this ending turned out to be a lot harder than
we thought.
It was partly that we were all a bit busy last year. Kate was busy
with Go Girls. I had a bit of work to do on That Other Show That
Can't be Mentioned Because it's on Another Network, and Gav was
pretty tied up with our new baby, This is Not My Life, which will
be on TV ONE in a few months. (Check it
out. It's not like Go Girls, but it is pretty cool.)
Anyway, excuses, excuses - but it took us a long time to get to
storylining episode 13. But then, after we'd done it, we
realised we'd done it all wrong. It was flat and dull and not
romantic enough and none of us were happy.
So we had to do emergency storylining and do it all over
again. This time, we came up with the whole thing about Brad
being the Prince who woos Britta with the bouncy castle and the
tiara, and we were a lot happier.
Then Gavin wrote the script, which was 87 pages long. How long is
this? It's much too long, but Gavin likes words so much he
can't stop using them. So I did a second draft and
chopped Gav's meascript into something slightly more
manageable.
And lo, it was episode 13.
And now it's been on air, and we hope you liked it. Tonight
we'll be watching with Bronny and Anna and various of our lovely
crew, supportive mates, and fine folks from SPP. There will
probably also be twitting. Or should that be
tweeting.
(I'm so old that I'm mostly on Facebook for the Scrabble.)
But just to show how nerdy the rest of them are - Anna Hutch is
having a bake-off against Gavin, so I guess we'll also be sampling
biscuits. I'm picking Anna's chocolate brownie will win over
Gav's Anzac biscuits, but you never know ...
Anyway, the end of another season, and we are now head down in
Season 3. Naturally I can't reveal the delights in store just
yet, but we are up to episode 11 next week, and things have got
pretty crunchy and a certain person has Come Back and very soon it
will be episode 13 all over again.
(Fingers crossed that we don't have to redo it this time ...)
But here we are at the end. Thanks again for watching Go Girls
and for your comments and feedback. We have such a ball making it,
but it's even better to know that you like it. The final
element to any show is the audience, ie you.
And actually it is your show, because you pay for it, through your
taxes, via New Zealand on Air, who fund NZ drama. So thanks to you
for that, and thanks to them as well. (It's a lot cheaper for
the networks to buy from overseas, so there'd be no local drama,
apart from Shortie, if there was no NZOA.)
So until next year, ka kite from us lot. And if you missed
any episodes, or you just want to commune with Kevin and the gang
in the break, I think the DVD is out quite soon ...
