Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel has had the red card he received during Sunday's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool overturned by the FA.

Villa were already 4-0 down when American international Friedel was sent off by referee Martin Atkinson for bringing down Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in the box.

The decision was deemed to have been harsh as Friedel argued he went for a 50-50 ball and had no choice but to clash with Torres as the Spaniard got to the ball first.

The decision will be great news for Villa as it means Friedel will now be available for Villa's clash with Premier League leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford on April 6th.
