United's veteran defender Rio Ferdinand is facing the axe from Alex Ferguson as fears continue to grow that he is past his best.
It was glaringly obvious that Ferdinand was no match for Fernando Torres during Liverpool's 2-0 win over United at Anfield on Monday, but it is not the first time his lack of pace has been exposed this season.
Poor performances with England in their World Cup qualifying campaign have also drawn criticism from many spectators and pundits about the 30-year-old, causing United boss Ferguson to question whether Ferdinand is doing well enough to get into Fabio Capello's England squad for next years World Cup.
"He has to get good form." Ferguson is quoted recently as saying.
"That's an important issue for the coach to pick the right team.
"In defence you've maybe got more options than other positions.
"He'll need to get his form right."
Now the club management are considering giving Jonny Evans a run-out - a switch that could come as early as Sunday when United take on struggling Blackburn at home.
Should Ferdinand be dropped from the Man United squad? Have your say below......
