Fernando Torres has brought Liverpool back from the brink of European disaster after firing in two goals to see his side ease past Lille 3-0 (3-1 agg) in the Europa League on Friday.
The Reds, who came into the clash at Anfield having to overturn a 1-0 away-leg deficit, were firing on all cylinders as they bid to make the Europa League trophy the saving grace of what has otherwise been a disastrous season.
Inspirational skipper Steven Gerrard fired the Reds ahead in the 9th minute after blasting a penalty into the top left-corner as the result of Brazilian midfielder Lucas being brought down in the box.
Star striker Fernando Torres, back to his clinical best, then fired in two more goals after half-time to seal a quarter-final berth for the five time European Champions who until Friday had looked in danger of progressing in the tournament.
The win, Liverpool's second in a week, will be a major boost the team as they get set to face fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend a bid to claim a top four Premier League spot.
