Chelsea skipper John Terry has said sorry after accidentally running over a Chelsea steward following his sides Champions League loss at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Terry was trying to drive through a media scrum late after Chelsea's 3-1 (agg) loss to Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan when he is said to have trapped the steward's leg underneath the wheel of his 4x4.
The former England captain, unaware of the incident then drove off, leaving the man on in the floor in agony.
The 35-year-old injured steward was then treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where it was confirmed he had suffering a broken leg.
Terry was later informed of the accident, and was subjected to a breath test before phoning the unnamed injured man to say sorry.
"We can confirm there was an unfortunate accident as John Terry left Stamford Bridge last night." A Chelsea spokesman is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
"When driving out of the stadium at approximately 1-2mph in a queue of traffic exiting the ground, his car was surrounded by photographers and fans.
"In the melee that ensued a member of Chelsea's security staff was knocked to the ground, making contact with the car. He suffered a badly bruised leg.
"John was aware at the time that there was a lot of contact with his car during the incident, but not that anyone was injured as a result.
"Upon hearing of the injury, John spoke to the police. He has also been in contact with the staff member to check on his welfare."
The incident is the latest in a run of bad luck for Terry who was recently dropped as England captain after news of his extramarital affair with a former team-mates girlfriend was revealed.
