Tottenham Hotspur's injury woes deepened on Saturday with the news that England striker Jermain Defoe has torn a hamstring.
Defoe, who has scored 23 goals this season, suffered a grade two tear on Friday and is set to be out for "a few weeks", manager Harry Redknapp told the Premier League club's website (www.spurs.co.uk).
Fourth-placed Spurs visit Stoke City on Saturday already without midfield trio Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone and Jermaine Jenas and defenders Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate among others.
"We've run into a bad spell of injuries. I've got Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Eidur Gudjohnsen to cover up front but it's other areas where we are just a little bit short at the moment, especially in midfield," Redknapp said.
England winger Lennon has been sidelined with a troublesome groin injury and is desperate to return to try and ensure a spot in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad for South Africa.
"He's raring to go and get back out there, so we are hoping he will get out on the grass and do some running again at some point next week," Redknapp added.
