Wellington Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata is confident Premier League football side Wigan will play a pre-season match in the capital later this year.
Pignata has been in talks with Wigan manager Steve Bruce who confirmed he has had interest from other A-League teams about hosting the side in June.
While Pignata concedes Wigan does not have the pull of other Premier League clubs such as Everton - who were rumoured to be making the trip to New Zealand for a pre-season tour before the deal fell through - the Phoenix CEO is confident there will be plenty of interest in Bruce's side.
Pignata told reporters he believes it is an affordable opportunity for families to see Premier League quality footballers, something they would not normally see in this part of the world.
Meanwhile Pignata has confirmed Waitakere United's Roy Krishna and Luis Corrales of Team Wellington will trial with the Phoenix next month.
