All Whites coach Ricki Herbert will not be attending the World Cup draw in South Africa next month.

The draw will take place on the morning of Saturday December 5th New Zealand time, but the Phoenix have an A-League game against Melbourne in Wellington on Friday, December 4.

Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata says he and owner Terry Serepisos discussed the matter with Herbert and they have reached an agreement for him to stay in Wellington.

He says Herbert has qualified for the World Cup and now it's his job to get the Phoenix into the playoffs.

Pignata says Herbert understands what is required of him and he will be coaching the Phoenix for the Melbourne game.

Serepisos and Pignata have been in Sydney for the last few days lobbying for a 10-year A-League licence.

The Phoenix hope to get an answer next week after Football Federation Australia talk with the Asian Football Confederation but Pignata says he is confident the club meets all the competition's criteria to secure its place in the future.
