Are you in need of a hero or want someone to set as the perfect example for your kids to look up to? Well wait no longer because I have found a very sound man for the role.
Manny Muscat has ticked the boxes on so many levels ever since joining the Phoenix and setting off on his professional career. These days you could be forgiven for thinking he is a seasoned pro who has played in the league for ten years or so.
Muscat is a player who Ricki Herbert can rely on no matter what. It doesn't matter if he is away for the week with his wife awaiting their first baby and misses training, Muscat can slot in perfectly.
This sort of player is pure gold to any manager and often the glue that keeps things together when times are tough.
In retrospect, over the past couple of seasons, it has been Muscat who has been Mr Versatility. He has played in the centre of midfield or slotted in at left back and his attitude and work rate is undeniably up there with the very best in the league.
One of the best moves for the new Phoenix owners has been gaining Muscat's signature and keeping him on for another two years. It would have been extremely difficult to replace him with anyone of the same calibre on and off the field.
Last week was one of the best examples of Muscat's drive to be
on the field and give his all to the team, manager, fans and club.
What more could you ask for in a player or professional athlete?
Asking his wife if it was ok to leave her side and then quickly
popping back to win a game for the team with his very first
A-League goal.
It might not have all the ladies overly impressed, but I can tell
you all the fans and players thought this guy is a 'legend'.
It would have been a perfect Speight's ad: Muscat would walk back into the changing rooms after the game with his no fuss attitude and Southern man Ben Sigmund (Siggy) would be standing there passing Muscat a beer whilst saying 'good on ya mate'.
There was also a plea from Gareth Morgan to call out Wellingtonians to come and support their team. I couldn't agree more with him and was so glad to see 13,000 turn up. It is now time to take it to 20,000 and its people like Muscat who are worth going to see.
Muscat is the model professional and one of the names I'm sure we'll see on the back of more fans' shirts in the years to come.
