The New Zealand based All Whites could be a little bit underdone come kick off time at the football World Cup.

With three months between the end of the A-League and the beginning of the tournament in South Africa, there was hope of finding short term loan deals to keep them match fit.

But Wellington Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata says they haven't had any luck overseas so far.

Pignata says at the moment there is no opportunity for any Phoenix players on the radar.

Meanwhile Pignata is keen to bolster the squad during the January transfer window.

He says he doesn't have any particular player in mind but would be interested in someone from another A-League club if the right one becomes available.

The Phoenix have released loan player Johnny Chen, who is returning to China after a lack of opportunites.

However they are very keen to retain All White goalkeeping hero Mark Paston.

Paston is off contract at the end of the season and is currently on the sidelines with a fractured leg but Pignata says they are continuing negotiations and would love to have him at the club next season.
