Liverpool hero Kenny Dalglish is set to rejoin Liverpool as a member of Rafael Benitez's backroom staff.

According to various reports in the British press, the former Liverpool boss and player will have an advisory role, with emphasis on the development of young players.

The 58-year-old, who managed the Merseyside club from 1985-1991, is not expected to be involved in first team coaching.

It is believed Rafael Benitez, who recently signed a new long-term deal keeping him at Anfield until 2014, is keen to improve the youth structure at Liverpool's academy, with Dalglish keen to be involved.

The Scot won six League titles with Liverpool, leading them to the FA Cup and League double in 1986 as well as three European Cups.

Although there has been no announcement, an official statement from the club is expected before the end of the season.
