West Ham and Sheffield United are close to agreeing a compensation deal in order to end the long-running Carlos Tevez saga.
Sheffield United were judged to be entitled to a compensation package reported to be in the region of 10-15 million pounds after they argued that the current Manchester United forward helped keep West Ham afloat in the Premier League in 2007, despite being signed ineligibly by the club.
The Yorkshire club, currently playing in the Championship division, had initial demands of 45 million pounds and a formal hearing was arranged for next week, something that both clubs are reported to have wanted to avoid.
It has instead been agreed that West Ham will pay The Blades 10 million pounds in installments over the next five years after an independent Football Association panel headed by Lord Griffiths, sided with Sheffield United after ruling that Tevez was instrumental in West Ham's survival.
Lord Griffiths' findings also mean that West Ham, currently sitting 7th on the Premier League table, could still face points deduction or a further fine.
