Rafael Benitez will make a late call on Steven Gerrard's fitness after naming the captain in Liverpool's squad for Saturday night's English Premier League football match against Blackburn at Anfield.

The 28-year-old has undergone scans on a thigh strain sustained in Thursday morning's 3-1 Champions League loss to Chelsea placing him in doubt for the match.

Benitez says it's a very important match, so they'll make a decision on whether Gerrard starts or not shortly before kick-off.

Also on Saturday night (NZ time), league leaders Manchester United face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
