France striker Jimmy Briand has been ruled out of the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania with a knee injury, the French federation said on Thursday.

The Stade Rennes player, who has three international caps, picked up the injury in a clash with goalkeeper Cedric Carasso during training.

"Jimmy Briand is suffering from a dislocation of his left kneecap and he is out against Lithuania," the FFF said in a statement.

France travel to Kaunas on Sunday and host Lithuania at the Stade de France next Thursday.

Raymond Domenech's side lie third in Group Seven with four points from three matches, five behind leaders Serbia and second-placed Lithuania but with a game in hand.
