Chelsea striker Didier Drogba faces a serious UEFA ban for a vicious tunnel attack on the referee after his side were knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona.

Drogba was seen hurling abuse at referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after Barcelona's Iniesta scored a last-gasp goal in the 93rd minute, putting the Spanish side through to the final of the Champions League in Rome.

Millions of viewers watched as Drogba screamed in Ovrebo's face after the Euro ref had he turned down four Chelsea penalty appeals before Drogba turned to the camera shouting the F-word.

According to reports in British newspaper The Sun, the abuse didn't stop there as Drogba continued to shout at the ref as he made his way down the tunnel.

One eyewitness told the newspaper: "Drogba was coming down the tunnel with ref Ovrebo alongside him. He kept shouting at Henning and the referee stopped."

"Drogba turned towards the ref and put his face just three or four inches from his face and kept shouting. He told the ref "This is a f***ing disgrace, you don't have respect, something like that can't happen. You can't do that."

"He kept slamming his hand to the wall just inches from the ref's face. Ovrebo looked terrified - but never said anything."

It is reported that Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack also joined in until the terrified ref ran back on to the pitch.

After the match, it is believed Ovrebo admitted to UEFA representatives that he had made 'significant mistakes' during the game.
