The Wellington Phoenix are putting contingency plans in place in case the club's A-League success impacts on the All Whites friendly against Mexico.

There are four Phoenix players (Tony Lochhead, Ben Sigmund, Leo Bertos and Tim Brown) and coach Ricki Herbert involved in the All Whites match on March 3rd in Los Angeles.

The second week of the A-League playoffs is on the weekend of March 6th and 7th, which will potentially mean a very limited buildup for Herbert and the players involved.

Herbert refused to be drawn on the matter, stating that at the moment it is all hypothetical.

He added that they have considered their options, looking at return flights direct from Los Angeles to various places in Australia should the Phoenix make it through.

Striker Shane Smeltz could also be affected, with his Gold Coast side involved in playoffs.
