Pamela Anderson and Richie Rich make fashion fun
Pamela Anderson and Richie Rich - A*Muse
I've never seen so many queues for an ANZFW show as there are tonight. The crowds eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of Pammy are immense. Once we're finally through the doors, the show starts a little before 6pm (an hour late) but everyone is too excited to care about the time. I'm just glad she made it back from Waiheke island in time.
Oh, and I must mention that as I glance my eye around the room, there are an abundance of men in attendance. I wonder why...
Who said fashion can't be fun? The runway is alive with energy and colour. It's smiling and it's free. From the very outset, A*Muse exudes sexiness. It's racy, it's trashy, it's skimpy and it's great. Its Pammy! It's all about fun and I get that.
A*Muses beach wear look takes on a retro-trashy 80's number with tie-dye garments appearing predominantly in white with pink and black splashes and prints. Tiny pants, short shorts and off the shoulder cut looks follow. It's skimpy, it's Pammy.
Nicky Watson, the Pamela Anderson of New Zealand, emerges in a multi-coloured bikini and she looks good. The male models are equally hot as they strut their stuff. With beautiful tattoos and many of them Maori in design, they own the runway in very tight shorts and Speedo-like pants - and the interaction between each other on the runway is nothing but entertaining. One long haired model even holds his surf board high and points to his trunks to get the cameras snapping. Skimpy? Yes. Sexy? For sure.
The room is alive with creative energy as the models continue to excite the crowd, laugh, smile and tease each other.
When it comes to T-shirts, they're fitted white with pink and black prints and writing (very much like the one Richie Rich wore in the press conference yesterday). My favourite piece of the evening is an off the shoulder silk dress with purple, green and blue butterflies. It's elegant and feminine, but incredibly sexy at the same time. However, I'm not sure about the off the shoulder look for men (knowing our Kiwi men) but I could be proved wrong.
And with a puff of pink and purple glitter, the moment everyone is waiting for finally arrives. Pammy enters the runway with Richie Rich at her side. She's wearing (!) a white scarf with pink, blue and green prints, tiny pink bikini bottoms and a pair of black heels. She's naked apart from these three items but I'm not surprised, it's Pam we're talking about here.
Nothing is left to the imagination as she flicks her blonde locks, flirts and cavorts around the cameras, twirling inappropriately, sorry appropriately, for it is beach wear were promoting here and again, it's Pammy.
After receiving a bunch of flowers, they retreat back down the runway with Richie Rich imitating the moon walk on roller skates before she, oops, pops out again.
I catch up with a few people in the audience after the event, one man claims 'it was a euphoric 15 minutes'.
I also chat with Michiko Hughes and Clifton Piper (TVNZ stylists) who are overwhelmed by what they've just seen. They tell me they feel so uplifted. They say it's what fashion is all about.
My expectations were high. I expected a show with a difference and I expected to be entertained and I was. Not only is A*Muse environmentally friendly and recyclable, it's sexy and fun and just how fashion should be. Bring it on. I can't wait for more.
