Basquesse: Don't cry for me Argentina
Hola!
Basquesse designer Viviana Pannell injected a touch of South America into the 2008 Fashion Week.
Despite Pannell's Peruvian background (she was born in Lima to a French father), the Basquesse collection seemed more Argentinian than Peruvian to my untrained eye.
Basquesse's showcase harked back to the heyday of Argentinian Eva Peron (the famed 'Evita), with 1930s style suits and dresses.
My personal favourite was a fitted leather jacket.
Basquesse's autumnal themed collection featured tailored suits with frilled hemming detail, alongside delicate feminine frocks in lightweight materials.
Pannell seems just as comfortable handling wool and chiffon, and isn't afraid of adding feminine detail to traditional pieces.
The show wasn't without the odd hiccup - one model removed a coat to reveal an unzipped dress, while another wore a pair of ill-fitting pants. The beaded tassles on the hems proved troublesome and unnecessary.
The tempo of the show was also inconsistent, particularly at the end of the show when two models wandered down the catwalk in a trance while modelling Basquesse's evening wear and bridal ranges.
They seemed at odds with the rest of the show.
