TAKEN FOR A RIDE

An update on our previous story about "car consultant" Peter Rose.

Since our story went to air Fair Go has received over 30 new complaints about the way he is approaching people to buy vehicles in supermarket carparks.

DECODER DELAYS

Reporter: Ruwani Perera

Dave Savage decided to upgrade his SKY digital decoder to a MYSKY HDi box at the beginning of August. With MYSKY, Dave wouldn't miss a single frame of the game and had a clearer picture quality with the ability to record, pause or rewind any match.

Sky TV is the only place fans can watch all 48 games live.

Sky told Dave they would have his new unit installed on August 26, in plenty of time before the Rugby World Cup began. They said there units available and that it wouldn't be a problem.

But then Sky rang telling him there were no MYSKY decoders left in the country.

Dave thinks Sky have poorly planned for the major event, despite having two years to organise this.

Sky admit there is a temporary shortage of MYSKYHDi decoders but say they have never run out, they say they were being cautious about their installation scheduling dates. A new shipment of set-top boxes arrived last weekend and will continue to arrive over the coming months.

Sky blames the shortfall of decoders on subscribers not returning their old units when they upgrade. The majority of customers who have upgraded from MYSKY HDi to Sky's latest MYSKY decoder have opted to keep their MYSKY HDi box as a second decoder.

Since April Sky has installed more than 50,000 MYSKY HDi decoders.

Dave Savage finally got his new set-top box on Monday 5 September, in plenty of time for Rugby World cup kick-off.

VIEW FROM THE TOP

"When you're top of the food chain, you don't have to take s--- from people".

A lawyer tried to stop Fair Go broadcasting this story. On the surface it's about a dispute over an extremely flash swimming pool. But really it's about an attitude.

Rolf Masfen is a member of the Masfen dynasty - father Peter is 18th on this year's NBR Rich List, at $330million.

Nigel Smith builds swimming pools, flash ones. Clients say he's extremely good.

He built a pool for Rolf Masfen's house in Wanaka - the price was $273,000 plus GST.

Rolf and Nigel are in dispute. Nigel says he's owed more than $80,000. Rolf says Nigel's workmanship is inferior.

So, that's the dispute. What's the attitude?

It came to a head with a conference call. Nigel recorded that call, as he's legally entitled to do. In it Rolf Masfen makes some remarkable comments. The most remarkable is that he "doesn't take s--- from people ... When you're top of the food chain you don't have to take s--- from people."

He's apologised to Fair Go viewers for those comments, and asks they consider the context, which he says includes poor workmanship, persistent mispricing, threats to his property and family, and bullying behaviour.

Nigel denies the threats and bullying absolutely.
