Security guards, security installers or security companies all need to be government registered.

Fair Go explains how to check that they are registered...

Go to www.courts. govt.nz/pisg. Go to the right hand side of that page - click on forms, that takes you to the private investigator and security guard licensing page. At the bottom of the page you will find the security guards listing - click on that, and you'll find whose license is lodged, whose is new, whose is pending.

For security companies - the licencees - they are listed just under the guards listing - open that - to check who has got a licence.

You may want to check if the security company you're planning on using is a member of either of these professional associations:
