Skunkfunk whiffs success
From Spain to Sydney to Southland? Well if Fashion Week exhibitor Skunkfunk has its way that could be a reality.
The brand started out over in Spain before raiding Australia, now the invasion has continued east into NZ.
But Skunkfunk's bid for world domination has a green tinge to it.
"The point of difference the brand offers is that 80% of the fabrics we are using are from eco-friendly fabrics, so they are either made from soya beans, bamboo or organic cottons and I think New Zealanders appreciate that," Skunkfunk rep Kristian Morris told tvnz.co.nz.
And that nature theme continues into the clothing itself with earthy greens the signature colour.
The brand is now in over 30 countries and being seen at events like New Zealand is vital to getting the name out there.
"We have done trade shows around the world and we have half a dozen accounts here in New Zealand. We've had a magical response from the market and we want to grow over here," said Sydney-based Morris.
But he admits that the market is going through a state of flux.
"It is challenging times for everyone out there and you need to get off your bum, get your product out there and I think there are opportunities which will open up and that's why we're out here, doing what we can."
And as for the name, well not even Morris knows where Skunkfunk comes from.
"We have asked the managing director where he got the name from but he is keeping his cards close to is chest."
tvnz.co.nz will be at Air New Zealand Fashion Week, bringing you all the latest news, pictures and blogs from the Auckland Viaduct - September 16-21.
