LIVE from NZ Fashion Week - Day One
tvnz.co.nz is at New Zealand's most
glamorous event - the Air New Zealand Fashion Week.
Our reporters are blogging about who is in, who is out and all the
catfights.
Alan Granville may not be one of life's most
dedicated followers of fashion but if there's champagne being
poured, he is there reporting, while
Anna Gowan
knows her Trelise Coopers from her Alice Coopers and will be
telling you what's hot this week.
7.15pm -
Alan - Big queues this
time for NOM*D. It is certainly a big draw with various Outrageous
Fortune actors, C4 presenters and even an All Black, Ali Williams,
on the front. Right that's the end of day one.
Check out our photogalleries from day one here and
see you tomorrow!!
5.40pm - Alan - Moet and Chandon has suddenly appeared in the Media Centre. Life is good (hick). Oh the "Be Fabulous Hour" mentioned earlier is a glorified happy hour, in case you were wondering.
5.30pm - Alan - Just returned from Juliette Hogan, certainly very different from the other collections on show so far. Very 1940s and 50s inspired. Luckily I had got a seat as the venue was packed yet again. I was sat beside a woman writing a book about New Zealand contemporary fashion. She regaled me of stories of bad behaviour by some journalists in the past, i.e being told to sit in row B and not row A and then storming out of the show or the copious amounts of people trying to access shows by using the immortal line "do you know who I am?". I haven't used it yet; I think I know what the response will be!
4.40pm - Alan - Bumped into ONE News journalist
Hadyn Jones, he was looking a bit bemused about events. Don't
forget if you want to ask him a question then email him at
hadyn.jones@tvnz.co.nz.
4.30pm - Anna - The air kissing counter stands at
2-2. The scoring is allocated as follows: one point for one kiss,
double points for air kissing someone when you meet them for the
first time. Alan has taken the competition to new levels and no one
is safe.
The Air New Zealand Lounge is an exclusive, VIP area looking out
over the viaduct. Beware of the air hostesses patrolling the area
for gate-crashers - only ticket holders receive pulpy orange juice
thank you very much.
4pm - Alan - The countdown is on... no, not for one of the shows but for Moet and Chandon's "Be Fabulous Hour" soon. Haven't got a clue what it's about but ever the investigative journalist I will try to find out. Kevin Milne eat your heart out.
3:30pm - Anna - There seems to be a distinct lack of seats in the Media Centre. It is like a game of musical chairs when the journos flood in after each show. Very unsightly seeing the great and the good of fashion scribes scrambling for a place to rest their derrieres.
3:25pm - Alan - Enough of canapés, the Ginger Nuts have been distributed around the Media Centre.
2.59pm - Alan - In between the arduous demands
of checking the latest fashions, one needs to have a rest and one
recommends a certain lounge sponsored by our national airline.
Drinks and canapés overlooking the Viaduct. I think I could
get used to this.
2:06pm - Alan - We try to gatecrash the Stitch
Ministry show but the queue is a mile long, scuppering our hopes of
sneaking in. Lots and lots, and I reiterate,
lots of leggy
blonde women waiting patiently to get in. Never mind, at least we
have seats for Juliette Hogan at 5pm. Anna is off to
interview a woman about ponchos.
1.15pm - Alan - Suddenly the event seems to empty out.. ahh it must be lunch time. Some hardy souls are lapping up the sun outside the Fashion Plate Café while even luckier sods are sipping drinks on boats moored just beside us.
12.47pm - Alan - We were warned straight off to
expect delays so ta-dah, the second show of the day starts 35
minutes late, and lasts 5 minutes. I hope this doesn't set the tone
for the week. Celeb count very low so far.
12.45pm - Anna - Forget World,
it's
all about Kirrily Johnston, the token Aussie at Fashion Week.
There's plenty of air kisses to be had - Alan's winning the
competition so far - as we wait... and wait.. and wait for the
doors to open. Inside Air New Zealand staff guide us to our
seats (or someone else's seats as the case may be). Johnston's
show featured some incredible Terracotta Warriors... or models in
'burnt orange'. According to fashion expert Alan, Johnston's range
is highly 'wearable'.
11.30am - Anna - We've arrived dah-ling! Having
run through the security gauntlet, we're now in the thick of the
media room, surrounded by puffed and preened fashion journalists,
craggy photographers and wide-eyed PR types. Fortunately
there's a well-stocked Red Bull fridge available for particularly
fraught moments. Soon we'll brave the style police on our way to
our first show: Kirrily Johnston.
10.13am - Alan - Time is almost upon us to
head down to the Auckland Viaduct for a week of fashion, gossip and
a lot of presumed air kissing. We have checked our initial goodie
bags, sorted out out press passes and invites and are ready to take
New Zealand by storm (ahem!).
