A superstar in the world of classical music is in the country for the first time for a series of concerts.
Violinist Pinchas Zukerman is widely recognised as a musical phenomenon, playing and performing around the globe for 54 years.
"It's such an incredible, fortunate thing to be able to be expressing oneself every day through these notes, it's unbelievable," he says.
The Israeli musician has made more than 100 recordings, garnering two Grammy Awards and 21 Grammy nominations.
NZSO Guest Conductor James Judd says Zukerman is one of the great musicians in the world.
"In our world Pinchas Zukerman is just iconic," he says.
In a major coup, this member of music royalty is in New Zealand playing with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and his own quintet, The Zukerman Chamber Players, which includes his wife, cellist Amanda Forsyth.
"We spend an enormous amount of time practising, working at it. And it's nice to be together, making music together," Zukerman says.
