Over the past couple of weeks, Style Blog has been focussing on how to bring shape to a garment. The best way to do this is by a great belt.
Generally, you want to emphasise the smallest part of your torso and this usually tends to be your waist. Belts are such a great tool enabling you to create one even if you don't really have a one!
They are the ultimate key to giving a balanced silhouette to a wintry, layered look. Try a belt over a top or a dress, over a fitted, long-line cardie or even a coat or jacket to highlight the waist.
From thin belts to wide belts, always be wary of your figure type and your outfit.
Unless you are going for a statement belt as a feature, belts shouldn't really take over an outfit, they should be the final icing on the cake, that piece de resistance, making a look work! Think Tim Gunn i.e "Make it work!"
We love to put a fabulous belt on Ali Mau from Breakfast to show off that enviable hourglass figure of hers!
What's more, the glam weather girls from ONE News, Karen Olsen and Renee Wright, look fantastic when their waists are cinched snugly within an inch of their lives!
Style Blog is currently obsessed with a black belt from Zambesi that seems to go with everything!

Speaking of Zambesi...
Style Blog always loves supporting our amazing Kiwi designers and we recently attended a private Zambesi Winter 2009 fashion show at their flagship store in High Street.
Zambesi designs pieces that can be layered easily together making their clothes thoroughly wearable and complimentary on anyone.
It's always great seeing Zambesi clothes in their own enviroment, one that truly personifies their unique aesthetic vision.
Zambesi have always been savvy enough to ignore crazy trends and are always consistent with their designs, creating collections that never date - using beautiful fabrics and keeping their design lines clean and minimal yet always with an interesting twist.
While on the topic of interesting twists, leggings were a big theme in the men's collection, paired back with long-line knitwear and coats.
Alexander McQueen used leggings in their latest menswear collection, funnily enough, paired back with ginormous cod pieces!! Le Coq Sportif anyone?
While we still love Alexander McQueen, Style Blog prefers the Zambesi boys with all of there bits and bobs tucked away for safe keeping. It's easier to concentrate on the garments instead of the equipment on display!
Here are some pics from the Zambesi show:
Continuing in the vein of celebrating New Zealand fashion, Style Blog also visited the Spring/Summer 09/10 collections at Process PR.
Process represents some great NZ labels such as Lonely Hearts, Lonely Hearts underwear label Lonely, Dem Jewellery, Deadly Ponies, Madame Hawke and Ruby.
Style Blog is loving emerging Kiwi label Dem Penny Jewels. Dem does statement jewellery like no one else - pieces that are truly "to die for".
It's always incredibly sexy when a lass dons a pair of dangly earrings and the length hits the collar bone.
Note: This is a look not for the faint hearted!
Dem is also producing amazing neck adornments (as seen below)
Here's a sneak peek at some Summer looks we can look forward to that Style Blog loves!
