Under fifteen-year-olds have been banned from the next Big Day Out concert in Auckland.

Organisers of the day-long concert revealed on Tuesday that Lily Allen, Muse and Powderfinger will be among the main acts appearing at the event.

But promoter Campbell Smith says health and safety concerns mean under 15-year-olds won't be so lucky.

He says there have been some problems in the past with kids been running free without being attended to by the adult they came with.

Smith says organisers have been able to deal with them, but he foresees the situation could become problematic.

He thinks it's best and safest for all involved to make the no under 15s regulation this year.
