A teenager was charged with breaking into the Los Angeles homes of actresses Lindsay Lohan and Audrina Patridge and stealing some $170,000 worth of clothes and jewelry.

Police arrested Nicholas Frank Prugo, 18, in September, saying he was suspected of burglarising the homes located in wealthy neighborhoods in the Hollywood Hills area. Lohan and Patridge were not present during the burglaries.

Prugo, who is from the Los Angeles area, faces two counts of residential burglary and could face up to six-years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.

The home of Lohan, star of the 2004 movie Mean Girls, was broken into in August and jewelry, clothes and accessories worth about $128,000 were taken, police said.

Similar items valued at some $43,000 worth were stolen in February from the home of Patridge, who stars in the MTV reality series, The Hills.

Some media reports said Prugo had known Lohan and had hung around the set of her latest movie but officials did not confirm the reports.
