Last week, Style Blog attended a MAC Pro industry-only event to learn and be inspired about all the key make up trends of Autumn/Winter 2010.
Only true, die-hard make up junkies venture out on a freezing "school night" at the start of a busy working week - but it was well worth it!
MAC cosmetics have always been at the forefront of make up artistry and pretty much dictate the trends of a season.
This is a company that thrives on being make up pioneers. MAC constantly pushes the boundaries of their art, whilst promoting beauty and gorgeousness at the same time.
The reason why MAC have always been at the forefront of fashion and cutting edge innovation is because they have always worked so closely with international designers, doing all their catwalk shows and promotions.
MAC stands for Make up Artists Cosmetics and it is revered by make up artists worldwide, not only because it is cool, but more importantly because it is a professional brand, designed specifically for film and television, catwalk shows and photographic shoots. But it's just as great for everyday use too!
Hot off the shows in Europe, extremely talented MAC make up artist, Amber D, bubbled with contagious enthusiasm.
Amber happily took us through all the salient looks and here's what we learned:
MAC's Autumn/Winter trends for 2010:
Redd -Velvet
Re-working the classic red lip, colours are much more intense. What keeps it modern is that this lip is much more playful with exaggerated shapes such as a geometric lips seen at the Dsquared 2 and Karl Lagerfeld and Missoni shows.
We love:
Lip pencils in "Cherry" and "Redd"
Lipstick in "Russian Red" (blue-based red)
Lipstick in "Lady Danger" (orange-based red)
Satin-Eyes
The new "smokey eyes". These eyes are based on liquid eyeliner with harder edges and stronger graphic shapes making them much more theatrical in feeling.
Unexpected twists such as pulling out a liner rather than flicking it up and blowing out a shadow in a squarer shape keep the black eye edgier than ever.
Check out the looks from the Giambatista Valli, Zac Posen and Threeasfour shows.
We love:
Eye kohl in "Smoulder"
Kohl powder eye pencil in "Feline"
Fluidline in "Blacktrack"
Eye shadow in "Typographic"
Voile-Veil:
Lineless, shadowy, beautifully blown out and blended sums up this look. Everything is blurred and soft, smudgy washes of colour as if it's been "worn in".
It's all about a chiffon-like halo of soulful shades, out-of-focus camera effects, unspecific shapes that capture this vibe of ultimate low-key luxe.
This look was epitomised at the Chloe, Blugirl and Vivienne Westwood Red label shows.
We love:
Eye shadows in "Copperplate" & "Flourishing"
Cream colour base in "Air Force Blue"
Sculpting powder in "Bone Beige"
Paint pot in "Quite Natural"
Lipstick in "To Pamper"
Brushes in 227,224 & 217
Cashmink
This look is all about taupes, beiges, rusty tones, minky toffee, caramel, tea and ochre peach coloured hues.
This is the new "bare, no-make up" look, understated with subtle highlights and slight contours juxtaposed with a lush, nude lip.
The defiantly strong masculine brow and bare lash create a very '90s tonal feel.
To quote top make up artist Lyne Desnoyers: "Skin is the ultimate accessory. It's not about masking everything, but rather bringing out and revealing the girl's individual natural beauty."
This look was seen at the Balmain, Kenzo and Alexander Wang shows.
We love:
Face & Body and Studio Sculpt foundations
Pro Sculpting powder in "Sculpt"
Pro Cream colour base in "Bronze" and "Mid-tone Sepia"
"Love to Love" and "Fade to Nude" eye shadows
"Utterly Game" blush
Careblends Essential Oils
Do try this at home and channel your inner make-up artist extraordinaire!
Have fun and see you all next week!
