This week Style Blog attended a very glam event - the launching of New Zealand's very own superliner, the Pacific Pearl.

While the dress code on the invite clearly stated "Summer Chic", a few guests must have been a tad confused about what this actually means!

Quite a few opted for "safe" black choices which are way too dull and boring for a summer shindig! Others dressed far too casually. This wasn't a family barbie - it was a swanky "do" that screamed out for some high glamour!

"Summer chic" translates into "Have some fun and be noticed!" You can be relaxed and yet still be ultra glamorous at the same time. It's easy!

Here are a few ideas on how to nail summer chic this season!

"Summer chic" and resort wear go hand in hand.

The difference is that "summer chic" is a notch up from "cruise wear", so add some great accessories to what you're wearing - long, dangly earrings, opulent necklaces, bangles or chunky cuffs and OTT statement rings.

Unless you are as tall as an Amazon, opt for high, strappy, open-toed shoes instead of flat sandals.

Long, flowing maxi dresses are effortlessly cool and always look great.

(Check out the amazing purple maxi-dress from Yvonne Bennetti that the female half of Style Blog was wearing on the night!)

Shorter dresses with embellishments are another fab alternative.

You can go for themes if you feel so inclined. Try tribal or the perennial classic, the nautical look. It never dates. Hello, Sailor!

Always go for colour, colour, colour! Strong bold colours like blues, reds and oranges, pinks, yellows and purples look amazing. Or try a bold and colourful print.

White looks incredible on tanned skin so make sure you book in for a spray tan a few days before a big event!

If you are feeling too over-done, opt for a "boho" hair-do. Try some soft "undone" tousled waves, a summery, loose up-do or add in some twists, all to create an uncontrived, relaxed feeling of glamour.

Guys can get away with wearing a nice, crisp shirt and pants (or even dark denim jeans) but a jacket is always your smartest option. Navy blazers look so handsome on the lads! If it's a ritzy event, always be sure to wear an immaculately tailored suit!

Have fun in the sun and see you all next year!

Happy Christmas from Style Blog XOXO
