Tokyo is one crazy place. It is unbelievably crowded and so thoroughly modern, it's like living in a sci-fi movie.
There is an attitude to fashion that is very whatever goes and
yet at the same time follows exactly what everyone else is doing.
The Tokyo look is eclectic, unafraid to throw cute together with
punk.
First impressions
Every female here is donning gumboots in every shade under the sun
- hot pink, khaki, brown, black polka dotted - there are all sorts
of insane versions around.
The numero uno version is of course the British Hunterway. Why, you may ask? Sure, there is a huge violent typhoon about to hit Tokyo (GREAT!!) and there's been torrential rain for days but it really is just a fashion statement that tends to be worn with exceedingly short skirts and teeny-tiny hot pants. Harajuku girl anyone?
Another Tokyo trend is an ode to Michael Jackson - the donning of a cap, dark sunglasses and a surgical mask over the entire face. It's so hot right now. Bird Flu is 'de rigeur'
Also, everyone has mad bauble, charms jangling off mobile phones
(even some men have them), tote bags, clothing i.e. jeans
pockets. The best one we have seen so far was a fluffy bright blue
pompom the size of a softball hanging off some young lasses mobile
phone. It is supposed to be the epitome of 'kawaii chic' but in
reality it just looks bizare.
Another must have on the streets of Tokyo is false eyelashes. Every
female under the age of 30 is sporting false eyelashes a drag queen
would consider over the top. The look is a natural day lash
accompanied by very heavy makeup. The last time Style Blog saw such
a theatrical look was at Family up on K'rd late one Saturday
night.
To keep up with demand there are eyelash bars everywhere. Off on a
night out? Waiting for your train to arrive and not feeling as glam
as you would like? Never fear, there is an eyelash bar at every
station with every lash you could ever dream of. SO MUCH
FUN!!
A lot of young Japanese girls are rocking a look which is a
strange fusion between hooker/stripper meets young virgin lass who
still likes her cute fluffy hello kitty toys.
All round fashion in Tokyo is fun and Style Blog is looking forward to going to the Harajuku where everyone is rocking a crazy look and some kind of insane get up.
GO TOKYO!!
