Apres-ski
The freezing Antarctic weather that blasted the country last week blanketed all our mountains with perfect snow.
Ever since, every keen snowboarder and skier has been at the mountains enjoying the best "bluebird" conditions in years.
This week, Style Blog followed the cool snow crowd down at Turoa and Whakapapa and checked out all the latest new season looks.
Snow Bunnies
The look simply screams "look at me"!
Even if you are the most atrocious skier or snowboarder around, always at least look the part! If you have a daggy outfit, it's best to just stay home!
This season, once again, it's all about bright, bright colour. Colour looks great up on the slopes and you can either match your accessories with your outfit or go for pure contrasts.
Women suit the slimmer legged pant that slightly flares out to a flattering boot cut.
Generally speaking if your jacket is long and baggy, wear super tapered, tighter fitting pants. On the other hand, if you have a snug-fitting jacket you can get away with baggier pants.
Have fun accessorising with goggles, uber cool sunglasses, hats (ones with pom poms are still very popular) and also super cute gloves.
We like:
- Japanese brand label Uniqlo's brightly padded jackets
- Chanel goggles
- Pom pom hats are very "kawaii"
Mountain Men
The lads actually surpass their female counterparts with their showpony-esque outfits! Standing out from everyone is the top priority (regardless of how ridiculous you most probably look)
It's predominately the snowboarders who like to wear the oddest,
gaudiest ensembles. Psychedelic neon outfits in an array of
outrageous, clashing prints and patterns are huge again this
season.
New technology fabrics create a variety of textures and can be matt
or super shiny with millions of zips, pockets, buttons and
interesting features.
Pants are outlandishly baggy, with a crotch so low that the "ass" is basically on show. Nice!
Exceptionally long and massive t-shirts hanging out are favoured. These T-shirts are so stupidly long that they look like dresses!
Giant ski goggles are worn on the top of the head with sunglasses worn on the face.
Gangsta-style scarves are wrapped around the face to create a street thug look.
Giant hats sticking right up like a cone just look darn silly!
This O.T.T arrogant style of dressing also reflects the nature of many young male snowboarders who have a particularly gung-ho approach on the mountain.
They love to career down at break speed oblivious to everyone whilst taking out several people on their way! Watch out for them as they "tear up the gnarsty slopes with their fully sick moves"!
The best part about a big day on the mountain is always the "après-ski"! This is the part of the day when you can lounge about in your comfiest cashmere joggers and don your toastiest Ugg boots.
There's really nothing better than getting together after an adventure packed day on the mountain and sharing the days events, devouring a delicious wood-fired pizza together and washing it down with some homemade mulled wine, a shot or two of schnapps and also a couple of Baileys!
The log-fire with the sheepskin rug is an absolute must as are toasting marshmallows on the fire and adding them to a steaming cup of hot choccie!
Ah bliss, if only wintertime was always such fun!
See you all next week!
