February 14 should always be a day of decadence and pampering.

Whether you have a loved one to lavish all your love and attention on or not, you also need to make sure that you are taking care of number one, i.e you!!

Some people get really disappointed on Valentine's Day with extraordinarily high expectations of what they should be "getting" or at least idealistically "experiencing" with their significant other.

These high hopes can be easily crushed within seconds when their loved one either:

1) Totally forgets or even worse
2) Hands over a horribly cheap looking gift that looks like it had just been hastily grabbed on the way home!

As for the poor single folk out there, as the big "day of love" rolls around again, suddenly it seems as if everyone - but them - is being spoilt rotten.

Yeah, it's great (not!) feeling like a complete loser and not part of the Valentines Day "in" crowd!

However, there's always one person that will never let you down, you!

So go spoil yourself, you deserve it of course.

Here's Style Blog's idea of a great St Valentine's Day:

Face:
You need to look your best so go down to MAC and get a face put on by one of their talented crew. While you're there, pick up some lovely make up goodies to treat yourself.

Hair:
Your hair will have to look it's most fabulous best so be sure to go and get a great blow wave from the talented team at Toni & Guy, High Street, Auckland.

Nice Scents:
It's important to smell nice and also have lovely scents wafting around you.

Pour Homme we like:
Costume National
Molecule by Karen Walker
Diptyque Philosykos
Terre de Hermes (lovely orangy scent)

Pour femme we like:
Stella McCartney's fragrances Stella and Stella in Two (Peony)
Jo Malone's Pomegrante Noir & Khodo wood collection (Dark Amber & Gingerlily & Lotus Blossom and Waterlily)

Candles:
Any Jo Malone candles
Diptyque candles such as "Figue" and "Galliano"

Handmade Chocolates:
Yes please! We like the Chocolate Shop in Parnell and Phillipes on Great North Road in Grey Lynn.

Lovely flowers:
No carnations for us thanks! White flowers always look fresh. We love orchids and also white & blue hydrangeas. We also love peonies when they're in season. We also go to Bhana Bros in Ponsonby for our blooms.

Fine Jewellery:
Diamonds and platinum would always win us over and big is best! Harry Winston anyone?

Drink:
Lovely Champagne - Cristal, Moet et Chandon and Perrier-Jouet would be very nice.

Lingerie:
Nice lingerie always makes you feel good! Go for Victoria's Secret or Agent Provocateur

Shoes:
No one does a sexy heel better than Jimmy Choo.

Go somewhere fabulous for dinner:
Cibo, Antoines or Vive La France - Arriving in a Bentley or a Rolls Royce naturellement!

A nice pressie:
Treat yourself to something fabulous at The Department store in Takapuna.

Leave town:
Take a long weekend in Sydney.
The itinerary:
Pack that Louis Vuitton luggage lightly and also your Hermes Birkin bag.
Stay at the Westin or Sheraton on the Park.
Have a luxury spa at Spa Chakra.
Go shopping on Castlereagh Street and pop into Hermes to buy a cuff or swing by Gucci to pick up some shoes.
Have a cocktail at Wildfire or Guillaume at Bennelong and check out the magical views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House.
Eat at Tetsuyas - there's a 2 year waiting list so better book now - and awaken your tastebuds to mouthfuls of heaven!

Ok, back to reality. One can but dream at least!

Happy Valentines Day!!
