Every savvy fashionista about town knows that once you have a wardrobe of "basics" sorted, you then need to start collecting a stockpile of fabulous accessories. This is the key to creating your own individual look.

For example, some wardrobe "basics" are the LBD (the little black dress), the tailored jacket and the basic white shirt.

Dress these up with a unique scarf, a cute hat, a vintage belt, eye-catching jewellery, a to-die-for bag or amazing shoes and just have fun with it!

Designs for a Cure 2010

Speaking of covetable scarves, Lancome has once again aligned themselves with five of New Zealand's top fashion designers to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Trust.

This year, Karen Walker, Trelise Cooper, Ruby, Cybele and Helen Cherry have each designed a limited edition scarf to complement their favourite Lancome Juicy Tube lip gloss.

The scarves go on sale at Lancome counters nationwide at the end of next month and 20% of the $50 retail price from each purchase will help fund BCRT projects.

Last year the iconic Juicy Designs for a Cure campaign successfully raised more than $55,000 for the Trust with the support of leading New Zealand fashion designers.

We will be dressing Breakfast's Pippa Wetzell in a scarf (or two!) at the end September so keep your eyes peeled.

Natalie Chan Headwear

Another great way to mix up your look is to play around with headwear.

When it comes to fab creations for our heads, our first port of call is always Natalie Chan and her beautiful atelier/boutique in Parnell.

Natalie is an extremely talented milliner who creates the most delightful headwear and specialises in one-off designs.

Natalie's pieces are in high demand and constantly feature in top NZ fashion mags such as Fashion Quarterly.

Depending on how confident you are, headwear need not be saved just for the races but can be worn everyday. Natalie herself pulls it off daily!

Natalie's collections keep going from strength to strength and her latest collection "Demimondaines" seeks inspiration from the demimondaines of the early 20th century.

In this collection, Natalie has strived to bring out the subtle enchantment of hats and fascinators through the design of broad brims, boldly tilted brims, large feathers, oversized flowers and bows, ribbons and veils.

Natalie says: "Headwear must have its own personality. If you can find a headpiece that brings out your true colours, well there just isn't anything more stylish and beautiful then that. Headwear should be worn as a unique and personal statement. Nobody wants to see somebody else wearing their own crown!"

Next week we'll bring you more great accessories to watch out for.and lust over! Until then, ciao for now!
