The hype had been building for months and the most anticipated wedding since Charles and Di tied the knot almost 30 years ago has finally come and gone!

Handsome Prince William, future King of England, finally married his beautiful dark-haired sweetheart, Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Middleton at Westminster Abbey and wasn't it a perfect fairytale wedding of all weddings?

Wow! We are still reeling from how utterly beautiful Kate looked. Kate's entire look, from her hair and make up to her stunning dress and veil, made her the epitome of style and sophistication.

What a wonderful wedding it was. Everything about it took our breath away! Just like the rest of the world, we were glued to the TV; it was such a fascinating spectacle to watch.

When Kate finally made an appearance in her dress designed by Kate Burton for the House of Alexander McQueen, we thought we had died an gone to heaven.

What a triumph for British fashion and for head designer Sarah Burton, who took over the reigns at the House of McQueen after his tragic suicide last year. McQueen was known as the "bad boy" of fashion, famous for his immaculate cutting skills, historical references and attention to detail. This lives on through Sarah Burton who has added her own distinctively feminine twist to the label.

The simple and elegant design of the dress suited Kate perfectly. Here was a modern day princess, an image of classic femininity.  The ivory and white silk satin gazar dress was a mixture of traditional and modern.

The dress featured long, fitted lace sleeves and a flattering v-neckline. English and French Chantilly lace was painstakingly hand embroidered and appliquéd onto ivory silk tulle over a fitted Victorian-style fully corseted bodice for a tiny wasp-waisted look.

The full skirt with the arches and pleats were like the opening of a flower. The slightly padded hips and the folded bustle at the back gave Kate's dress a vintage feel and there have been many comparisons to the wedding dress movie star Grace Kelly wore when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco back in 1956.

The dress also has similarities to Princess Margaret's and the Queen's wedding dresses.

The train of Kate's dress was modest and not ostentatious at all, measuring 3 metres long as opposed to Diana's monstrous 8 metre long train.

The fine veil Kate wore was stunning and set off with a super sparkly diamond Cartier "halo" tiara lent to her by none other than the Queen. The glittering diamond drop earrings were a gift from her parents from London jewellers Robinson & Pelham and they upped the bling a notch or two!

Kate's hair was simple and chic in a "half up, half down" demi-chignon. Kate is so non diva-like that she did her own make up and did an amazing job, she looked incredible!

Even Kate's sweet bouquet was simple and not over the top: a selection of hyacinth, sweet William, lily of the valley and myrtle.

Overall Kate's look was timeless. Sure, it didn't push the envelope in the fashion stakes because Kate smartly choose to play it safe. Sometimes being "fashion- forward" isn't always the best option and it's always better to be tasteful and elegant.

Kate's sister Pippa looked just as gorgeous and nearly stole the show in an elegant figure-hugging heavy, ivory satin-based crepe gown that featured cap sleeves also designed by the House of Alexander McQueen. The sexy, cowl-necked dress showed off her amazingly svelte figure and tan.

It was just as interesting watching the guests come into Westminster Abbey, a colourful sea of feathers, fascinators and giant hats. Posh and Becks were there with pregnant Posh opting for one of her own "Victoria Beckham" designs and also wearing an exceptionally high shoe!

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice gave us a lesson in what not to wear. Vivienne Westwood be-decked Eugenie looked frumpy as the design just didn't suit her curvy body shape. As for Beatrice, she wore a pale pinky-beige Valentino ensemble. A ridiculous hat designed by Phillip Treacy spoilt it all. It was plonked right on the middle of her head and it looked like the offspring between an octopus and deer antlers - "Rudolph" anyone?

Naturally we wanted to make sure our people from TVNZ covering the wedding were looking their super best too!

Mark Sainsbury was a picture of sartorial elegance.

Wendy Petrie wore a collection of beautiful dresses by Trelise Cooper, worn with immaculately tailored jackets and coats from Yvonne Bennetti. On the wedding day itself, Wendy wore a beautiful floral Trelise Cooper dress that had beading at the neckline and worn back with a fuchsia pink velvet coat by Trelise Cooper.

Fashion-loving Petra Bagust is a veritable clotheshorse and looks good in anything!

In London, Petra wore a selection of beautiful pieces from Trelise Cooper, Juliette Hogan and Kate Sylvester with jewellery from Naveya and Sloane and also Boh Runga for NZ Mint Jewellery.

We went for a distinctly "royal" and "Brit cool" feeling for Petra.

For the big day itself, Petra wore an azure blue Kate Sylvester dress and a stunning black fascinator by Natalie Chan.

All this fashion, we have been in seventh heaven.

Roll on Harry's wedding, we can't wait.

See you all next week!
